Trusted Partners
Rock Creek Capital is a trusted partner and confidant as you navigate the opportunities and risks associated with your high growth business.
Investment Capital
We make substantial equity investments in qualifying businesses to achieve the goals and objectives of the founder.
Strategic Support
Your capital strategy should support your business strategy. We provide strategic and operational support to help your business grow.
Integrity and Business Ethics
We believe in absolute integrity in all of our business dealings.
Partnership and Mutual Respect
We seek to differentiate ourselves by being supportive, reliable and value-added partners to management teams. We respect and admire the skills and sacrifices that have enabled the founder to build a high-growth, successful company. We desire to be his or her partner in the heavy lifting involved in building a great business. That means supplementing your skills and talents, not replacing or supplanting them. Consistent with this value, we often acquire minority interests because of our commitment to and confidence in the founder’s judgment and ability. Entrepreneurs are at the heart of our business. We recognize that without them, we cannot succeed. We seek to develop strong, lasting relationships with the entrepreneurs and founders with whom we partner.
Long-term Commitment
We recognize that building companies of value takes time and sustained effort. We emphasize long-term value creation over short-term gains. If holding a business beyond the present generation of ownership makes sense, we’ll make that choice.
Investment Criteria
We invest in businesses possessing the following characteristics:
- A strong management team
- Rapid sales growth
- Sustainable competitive advantage
- High EBITDA margins
We make equity investments of $1 to $25 million in venture, growth capital (minority), buyout or recapitalization transactions. However, with our partners, we have the ability to invest substantially more. We recognize the importance of structuring transactions to fit the unique objectives of each business and circumstance. The capital strategy should support the business strategy. Sometimes investors take a contrary approach to the detriment of the business.
We are generalist investors and seek opportunities in a wide variety of industries, however, we have particular expertise in business services, healthcare, manufacturing and specialty finance companies.
Our Ongoing Role
In most cases, we play an active role on the Board of Directors of our portfolio companies, working with management to develop and execute strategy, arrange financing, recruit talent and support M&A opportunities.
We are patient, long-term investors who understand that it takes time to build companies of lasting value. In all cases, we seek to develop strong, lasting relationships with the entrepreneurs and founders of businesses in which we invest.
What Our Partners Are Saying
Here is what some of our partners are saying about Rock Creek Capital:
Talley Goodson, CEO
3-form
“Jordan Clements led an investment in 3-form shortly after I assumed the role of CEO of the company. It was a period of tremendous risk and opportunity for our company. Jordan joined the board of directors and became a valued partner and advisor as the
company embarked upon an aggressive growth strategy. His strategic abilities and experience in building high growth companies were integral to our success as we grew from a few million in revenues to over $50 million in a matter of a few years. Although we recapitalized the business a few years ago, I continue to counsel with Jordan concerning our business and personal investment and career matters.”
Todd Pedersen, CEO
Vivint
“As the CEO of a high growth business, I needed a board member who could help navigate challenging issues relating to financing the company’s growth. Rick Stratford was invaluable both in helping develop a capital strategy as well as working with other board members to achieve a consensus regarding that strategy. He was a true partner and helped leverage my time in taking responsibility for managing challenging board issues. Ultimately, Rick played a critical role in developing a plan for achieving an outstanding exit for our initial investors and recapitalizing the company.”
Dan Lambert, CEO
Board Vitals
“Rick Stratford led the Series A investment round in Board Vitals, a leading test preparation platform for medical specialties located in New York City. Rick was easy to work with in negotiating and structuring the deal. He understood my concerns as the CEO of the company and was flexible in structuring a deal that was a win for all parties.”
